The acai berry (ah-sigh-ee) is grown in the Amazon of Brazil.  This tiny berry provides a long list of health benefits that have led it to become the worlds most recently recognized superfood.

This little berry has a ton of amazing things inside:

  * High in Antioxidants – Antioxidants help fight free radicals in our bodies.  Free radicals are the unwanted by-product of sun exposure, pollutants, smoking, stress and even your own metabolism.  Studies show that free radicals are partially to blame for such things as heart disease, various forms of cancer, cataracts and premature aging.  Acai provides 57% more antioxidants than pomegranates, making it a powerful combatant in helping to eliminate free radicals.

*Omegas 3, 6 and 9 – These are the heart healthy omegas that help to maintain healthy cholesterol levels.  The fat content in acai is remarkably similar to that of olive oil.

* High in Anthocyanins – This is what gives the acai berry is rich, dark purple color.  Anthocyanins are strong antioxidants that help fight free radicals.  Acai berries have the most anthocyanins than any other known fruit or vegetable.  In fact, acai berries contain 10-30 times more anthocyanins than red wine.

Cupuacu

The cupuacu fruit (coo-poo-ah-soo) is a relative of the cacao plant, from which chocolate is made.  Cupuacu is also rich in antioxidants.  It stimulates the immune system naturally while also increasing energy and stamina but without the jittery feeling or crash that can be caused by synthetic caffeine sources.

Camu Camu

The camu camu berry is another fruit from Brazil.  It contains the amino acids valine, leucine and serine, and is rich in flavonoids.  Camu Camu also has extremely high levels of vitamin C, up to 50 times more than an orange.  The potential health benefits of the camu camu berry include a stronger immune and nervous system and increased prevention of viral infections, cancer and heart disease.
